For a gun that lives by the bed, a quality red dot plus a weapon light is the right call. Inside a house you're dealing with feet, not yards — you want both eyes open, fast target acquisition, and zero magnification to track a moving threat. An LPVO is a fantastic do-everything optic if your AR also pulls range or daytime duty, but it's heavier, slower up close at 1x than a dot, and overkill for pure home defense. Whatever you pick, mount a light — you must identify your target before you ever consider pressing the trigger.
