How do I store ammo long-term?

0

Picked up a few cases of 9mm and .223 while prices were down. What is the realistic right way to store it so it still goes bang in 10 years — temperature, humidity, original boxes vs. ammo cans?

Modern ammo is sealed and tough. Keep it cool, dark, and dry — a closet or basement shelf is fine, just avoid big temperature swings and direct sun. Toss it in metal ammo cans with a silica gel pack or two and you are done; the rubber gasket keeps humidity out. Leave it in the original boxes inside the can so you can track lots. Stored that way, decade-old ammo runs like new.

Ammo cans with desiccant packs, kept in a closet. Cheap insurance and they stack nicely.
