1911

The 100-year-old .45 with the best trigger in the game — history, platforms, and is it right for you.

Ask about the 1911

Overview

Over a century after John Browning designed it, the 1911 endures because of how it shoots: a slim single-stack grip, a low bore axis, and arguably the best trigger in the handgun world. In .45 ACP (or 9mm), it points naturally and rewards good fundamentals like few other pistols.

The tradeoffs are a real manual of arms (thumb and grip safeties), lower capacity, more maintenance, and the fact that cheap 1911s can be finicky — quality matters here. Who it's for: shooters who love the platform and don't mind its demands; usually not the easiest first gun.
