IWB vs. OWB
Holster positions — Inside the Waistband (IWB) tucks the gun inside your pants for concealment; Outside the Waistband (OWB) rides on the belt.
IWB (inside the waistband) holsters clip the gun inside your trousers against the body, hiding most of the firearm for better concealment at the cost of some comfort and a slightly slower draw. OWB (outside the waistband) holsters mount on the belt outside the pants, which is more comfortable and faster to draw but harder to conceal without a cover garment.
The choice depends on goals: concealed carriers often run IWB (frequently at the appendix or strong-side hip), while OWB suits range use, open carry, duty, and competition. Either way, a rigid holster that fully covers the trigger guard and a sturdy gun belt are essential for safety and retention.
