About .22 LR

.22 Long Rifle is the cartridge nearly every shooter learns on. It's inexpensive, has almost no recoil, and is quiet — which makes it the single best tool for building fundamentals without developing a flinch. A Ruger 10/22 or a .22 pistol will give you a lifetime of cheap practice, small-game hunting, and pure plinking fun.

It's a rimfire round, so it's inherently a bit less reliable than centerfire and isn't a primary self-defense choice — but as a trainer, a kid's first rifle, and a do-everything plinker, nothing matches its value. Stock up when you see it; it's the round you'll always want more of.
