What 380 defense ammo actually penetrates enough?

I hear 380 hollow points either do not expand or do not penetrate. What should I actually carry in my pocket 380?

It is a real tradeoff with 380 from short barrels. Some shooters choose a quality FMJ to guarantee penetration depth; others pick a JHP engineered for low velocity, like Hornady Critical Defense or Federal HST Micro, which are designed to penetrate adequately from pocket pistols. Pick a load with a track record of adequate penetration, then confirm it feeds 100% in your specific gun. Because 380 is already marginal, reliability and penetration matter more than chasing maximum expansion.
