How much should I expect to pay for an FFL transfer fee?

0

I'm buying a pistol online and it has to ship to a local FFL. What's a normal transfer fee, and is it usually more for handguns than long guns? Trying to budget before I commit.

Most shops run $25–$40 for a transfer. Some charge one flat fee regardless of type; others add $10–$15 for handguns because of the extra paperwork. A few big-box stores do a flat $25. Call two or three places near you and compare — it varies a lot even in the same town.

Watch for shops that advertise a low transfer fee but then tack on a separate background-check or 'processing' fee. Ask for the all-in price, including any state fees, before you have it shipped there.
