Can I use any FFL for a transfer, or does it have to be a gun store?

The closest FFL to me is a pawn shop, and there's also a guy who runs one out of his home. Is that fine for receiving a transfer?

Any active FFL can legally handle a transfer — it doesn't have to be a storefront gun shop. Pawnbrokers (type 02) and home-based 'kitchen-table' dealers (type 01) do them all the time, and the home-based ones are often cheaper. Just confirm they accept transfers and what they charge, since a few only deal in their own inventory.
